5 Herbal Remedies for Weight Loss

Weight loss. It seems like it’s on everybody’s mind these days. And who can avoid it when every day we’re bombarded by television commercials and magazine advertisements promising the latest and greatest weight-loss solution – that magic pill or system that will finally help us lose those extra pounds and keep them off.

With all the options out there, how does one choose?

Well, what if you didn’t have to?

Herbal remedies have been around longer than any magic pill, any diet, and well, any person, to be truthful! And they work. What’s more? They are all natural – there are no nasty side effects to worry about.

Don’t get me wrong – you won’t magically lost weight just by taking the following herbal ingredients. There’s no product out there that can do that. But by following a daily regimen of moderate exercise and a balanced diet combined with the below, you will see weight loss results.

Take a look . . .

PLANTIAN mucilage in the diet dramatically reduces serum cholesterol levels. Plantain before meals causes a definite decrease in triglycerides and beta cholesterol (the bad guys) with a proportional increase of serum levels of alpha cholesterol (the good guy). Since deficiency in the latter substance has been implicated in obesity, type II diabetes and atherosclerosis, it is likely that Plantain mucilage provides some protection against those diseases. Plantain in a reducing diet for women has resulted in weight loss substantially greater than that obtained by the diet alone. Plantain works because it satiates the appetite, thereby limiting caloric intake and also because it reduces the absorption of lipids.

FENNEL was used as a dietary aid as far back as the first century. It is still successfully used today. Fennel does not directly affect weight, rather is has soothing, mildly stimulating properties that help maintain tone and stasis, that sterilize and stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, and help reduce griping or cramping.

BURDOCK ROOT is included here to cleanse the blood of toxins during the weight loss regimen. It markedly enhances liver and gall/bile functions. Though the ingestion of Burdock Root probably will not lead to weight loss, any good weight loss program should incorporate an herb to strengthen and purify the blood.

HAWTHORN BERRY helps to offset the increased demands made on the heart by the condition of being overweight. It also helps recondition and tone up the heart muscle while reducing, especially if the reducing plan includes, as it should, some form of exercise. In that case, it is very important that the heart be able to supply sufficient oxygen to the tissues. Hawthorn berries have been shown to have an oxygen-saving effect on the heart muscle. Hawthorn also has a very strong vasodilatory action, and it lowers peripheral resistance to blood flow. After several hours of food abstinence the herb produces a significant decrease in free fatty acids and in lactic acid. These findings indicate that Hawthorn has an anabolic, or building up, effect on the metabolic processes and helps reduce coronary stress induced by being overweight and performing exercise.

KELP and BLADDERWRACK are two of the best weight-reduction plants available. Iodine in Kelp maintains a healthy thyroid, thereby significantly reducing one major cause of obesity. In addition, seaweeds increase the body’s ability to burn off fat through exercise. Stamina is boosted, allowing cells to consume energy more efficiently. Kelp also lowers blood cholesterol levels.

So that’s it folks! Again, it’s not a quick fix for weight loss. But combined with a balanced diet and moderate exercise, the above blend can help you reach your weight loss goals. So what are you waiting for – let’s get started!

* While it is preferred that the above herbs be used in combination, they can also provide significant benefits if used singly.

** While these remedies have proven results, you should always be careful when choosing a new regimen of treatment. It’s best to ease into the use of herbs and ease out of the use of traditional medications – especially if your health problems are severe. A sudden switch of health regimen can be hazardous.
