Question
I recently started my stroke victim husband on oral chelation capsules and after 2-3 weeks he developed an itchy rash with breakouts , euptions, and blisters. It was diagnosed as bullous pemphigoid. Of course I had taken him off the oral chelation caps but I felt this had brought on the disease because of release of toxins the oral chelation caps had brought about. Now that he is cleared up fter prednisone and tetracycline and niacin treatmen I would like to start again but more slowly this time. Any suggestions? I am taking the caps with no untoward symptoms for me. Betty

-- Betty W.

Answer
I would NOT restart him on the oral chelation again. He likely broke out as a result of the oral chelation. You should try to find am MD in your area that is familiar with natural therapies so that he/she will be able to guide you. We are all genetically different as a result you dont have a problem with them but it is obvious that he does.

Question
my mother was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer 5 years ago. 9 months ago it came back on her lung and when they treated her with chemo it must have wiped out something and they can't get her platelets back up so they can't treat her. She is in terrible pain because the cancer came back on the lung. Any suggestions on how to get the platelets back up or treatments for pain? my email address is robynhandsman@comcast.net. We live in central new jersey not far from Edison.

-- Robyn H.

Answer
I am very sorry to hear about your mother. It is likely that the chemo may have damaged her bone marrow and thus the problem with the platelets. I am not aware of anything natural that will raise her platelet count. As far as the pain she will likely need prescription pain medications. Blessings to your Mom.

Question
What is the difference between acidophilus and Kurzyme?

Thank you, katycat

-- Cathy M.

Answer
Acidophilus is the "good bacteria" that resides in the digestive tract. In my opinion acidophilus is the most important nutrient for better overall health. Kurzyme has no acidophilus but does have powerful digestive enzymes and antioxidants.

Question
In order to keep my heart healthy, what herbal supplements or vitamins should I take to lower my high blood pressure?
Also, what can be done about an enlarged heart due to high blood pressure?
Thank you in advance.

-- Terrie L.

Answer
Lets talk about the second part of your question first. The best way to control your left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH) or heart enlargement is to control your blood pressure(BP). It is well documented that if BP is controlled the heart enlargement will slowly resolve. The herbal supplements that I like for the heart are, CoQ10, carnatine, D-Ribose and magenesium. These supplements have been used in heart failure patients and have proven to be quite effective. One of the simplest thimgs to do to reduce blood pressure is to cut down on salt, avoid processed foods and no lunch meats.
